Dundas Community Services

Friendly Visiting

The Friendly Visiting program provides companionship and support to help seniors or persons with disabilities remain independent in their homes. This program aims to enrich the social interaction of individuals by connecting them to the community and other helpful resources.

Friendly Visitors provide one-on-one social check-ins. Each Friendly Visitor is carefully matched with a client by similar interests and background. All volunteers are required to provide a valid Vulnerable Sector Screening Check, take part in the interview process, pass the reference check, and participate in any training sessions.

Visitation lasts about an hour which usually takes place at the client’s home (including retirement residences) on a weekly basis. The client and volunteer may chat, play a board game, do arts and crafts, or talk about current events. The pair can also go for lunch or arrange a day trip together, and so much more.
